There is no question that the jittery keyboard punk of Hot Hot Heat has taken a mighty tumble since the band's "Bandages! Bandages! Bandages!" days of igniting dancefloors and quickly graduating from Sub Pop to a major label. The band is still at it, having recently released their energetic fifth full-length, Future Breeds. It's a perfectly acceptable record, but fails to deliver on the promise the band once showed. Instead, while listening I was distracted by this sticker on the inside of the CD packaging:
These "***FCC Alert***" warnings are commonplace on promotional CDs—since press and radio often receive the same product—but normally they are listed in the bio, not affixed to the CD itself, and they never mention the profanity in such detail. I wish everyone did this. How great would the sticker be attached to an NWA album?
Anyway, let's listen to the word "Apeshit" now...
