In a few weeks, the first ever Not Enough! festival will kickoff in North Portland. The two day, one-of-a-kind celebration of music, art and community has been organized by local punks Forever and feminist/queer-positive booking collective Punkstart My Heart as a way to strengthen bonds between the queer artists of Portland. From the festival's mission statement:
This is a call-out to Portland’s communities. We want to encourage people in the diverse queer and LGBTQIXYZ communities of Portland to collaborate and create NEW projects for a process-based experimental music-art-performance festival occurring September 18th and 19th.Not Enough! is a festival that has come out of the desire to create safe, loving, and inclusive spaces for queers to perform in, while at the same time strengthening communication, bonding, and cohesion of those who perform in the festival. It has come out of the desire to have queers and those at the periphery create their own fun spaces to experiment, collaborate, and learn from. We want to meet you! We want to have fun!
The deadline to submit your band/film/performance is Sunday, September 5th. Fingers crossed someone performs a super tongue-in-cheek set as Hetero Smith and the Heterosexuals—you'll find them in the Mercurette at 0:51 in the video below. I think this paper needs to change its name.
