First things first, which the women of the English Dept. clearly understand, and so greeted their guests at the door of the Ace Hotel Cleaners with a mimosa apiece yesterday. (Hey, it was noon on a beautiful, sunny Sunday.) Once settled, the show promptly began, an all-white dress production that broke up the predictability of a bridal show with shots of neon, from the shocking-pink programs to the heavily pigmented eye makeup to the poppy tights and hair extensions on the models (courtesy of The Proper's Galen Amussen). In its sixth year, the show and the shop behind it are confident in their niche, and some of the store's familiar best sellers walked alongside new acquisitions. Owner Elizabeth Dye's own work was prevalent, and some of the most remarkable of all the dresses shown, although a lone one-of-a-kind contribution from Claire La Faye made a memorable appearance as well.
