Olympia's foremost Indonesian-inflected rock band, Arrington De Dionyso's Malaikat dan Singa, recently entered Calvin Johnson's Dub Narcotic studio to cut a version of Captain Beefheart’s “Hot Head,” a classic from his world-beating 1980 LP Doc at the Radar Station. This cover is pretty faithful, as the band nails the obsessive-compulsive friction of the main guitar riff and the oblong stumble of the rhythm, but Arrington adds even more menace to Don Van Vliet's already-scarily intense delivery.
