Deep in the heart of Southeast Portland lies a garage full of thousands of unicorns. Last week for In the Shadows, I got to hang out with Rusty and Flo, the children of Portland's premier unicorn collectors, the late Salle and Jim Barrett.
In addition to stuffing their house with unicorn statues, blankets, necklaces, lamps, earrings, and belt buckles, Salle and Jim were big community builders and helped found local affordable housing development agency Rose CDC.
Now their entire unicorn collection will be auctioned off to raise money for Rose CDC. The auction is happening THIS SATURDAY, October 16, from 4-7pm at Lents Commons (9201 SE Foster).
