As a native New Englander, I spent the better part of yesterday listening to NPR's live broadcast of the Newport Folk Festival while swooning over pictures of sailboat-filled harbors and watching this video of a man named Scott cracking open a Maine lobster on repeat. Utter depression set in right about when Andrew Bird joined the Preservation Hall Jazz Band on stage for "Shake It and Break It," which corresponded with Scott dipping a meaty lobster claw into a ramekin of melted butter...
And then suddenly, I peered out from under the piece of parchment paper I was using to dry my tears and remembered... Pickathon! This weekend! Yes!
And as fate will have it, the folks at Pickathon also remembered that Pickathon is this weekend and decided to post a pretty comprehensive mix of songs from artists playing the festival to keep our spirits high and our ears sated 'til Friday. You can listen to the All Night Mix right here on the festival's website, while picturing yourself happily devouring lobsters—fine, Whole Bowls—in a barn on Pendarvis farm in just a couple hundred hours.
