Maybe you've heard of Monica Drake, author of Clown Girl and Portland resident. The film rights to that novel, which Chuck Palahniuk called the best novel of 2007 (though he's biased, he did write the introduction) were purchased by Kristen Wiig. And this weekend, local filmmaker Andy Mingo is shooting part of his short film based on her story "Georgie's Big Break" at Portland's own Wordstock Festival.

From the press release:
Monica’s stories lend themselves easily to the screen. Andy Mingo will be shooting a portion of a short film during this year’s Wordstock at the Oregon Convention Center. Georgie’s Big Break is about a single mother who volunteers for a literary festival in order to network in the literary world.
She’s assigned to introduce a famous literary figure, however, when she arrives it isn’t exactly what she had in mind.
If you're going to Wordstock, be sure and check out Hawthorne Books's table. They published Monica Drake's book and are an exciting part of our local literary scene.
