Thank you, Randy Leonard. Thank you.
Portland's water commissioner has just given us (or maybe just me?) another excuse to make pee-and-poop jokes—all in the name of one of the truly great and sensible ideas to emerge from City Hall in recent years.
The Portland Loo apparently has its very own Facebook page, and Leonard's staffers, in a post this week on his blog, are blowing the trumpet new fans. The goal? 1,000. The current number? 54.
Here's the pitch:
You can stay up to speed on the latest updates about the Portland Loo by liking the Loo on Facebook. You can easily keep track of news items such as our approval for a patent or the installation of the most recent Loo on SW Naito at Taylor Street by becoming the Loo's Facebook friend. We will keep you in the loop about the upcoming World Toilet Day and the 2 Loos that are scheduled for installation this Fall!
I expect I'll sign up. The Portland Loo concept is genius and humane and decent. Everyone deserves a private place to piss. And Leonard still deserves credit for muscling 'em in place—occasionally over the outcries of neighborhood NIMBYs.
