Tonight at the East End, beloved rockist rockers Meercaz will play their final Portland show before Meercaz main man Muzz Delgado leaves Portland behind for Oakland, CA next month. I've only lived in the city a short while, but have come to grow quite fond of this band, who puncture the adrenal gland with monster Motor City riffs, proto-punk psychedelics, and an occasional narcotic lo-fi come-down. They'll be joined by Portland's classic first wave hardcore punk revisionists Therapists, whose reckless, wild-eyed lead singer beckons the spirit of Darby Crash and other fallen, punk misanthropes who would shit on your mother's grave. When I caught the band at SMMR BMMR, their sound reminded me of Zero Boys, all degenerate attitude, self-deprecating aggression, and catchy, pogo fury. The night's line-up is filled out by Oakland garage rockers Tropical Sleep and fellow townspeople Bitter Honey, who will bring some Northern soul into the night. A report from the show last night at The Funhouse in Seattle concluded both Bitter Honey and Tropical Sleep were "awesome."
